Methods to upgrade to Super OS
Notes
- Internet access is required for all upgrades/updates, except the ones using the Super OS Service Pack/Super OS upgrade pack
- It is always a usually better to do fresh install (format) instead of upgrading from a major version to another, since upgrades sometimes break applications or other functionality.
Upgrading from Ubuntu 8.10 (or Super Ubuntu) or older versions of both
- You first have to upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04 (see: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading ), and then upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 to Super OS (see bellow).
Upgrading from Ubuntu 9.04 (manual way)
- Install the Super OS 9.04 repository
- Check for updates (type sudo apt-get update on the terminal)
- Install the package super-os (using Synaptic or the terminal: sudo apt-get install super-os )
- Done!
Upgrading from Ubuntu 9.04 (easy way)
- Install the Super OS 9.04 Service Pack
Upgrading from Super OS 9.04 to Super OS 9.10
A fresh install (format) is strongly recommended (this new version includes new stuff like ext4 and GRUB 2 that you will not get with an upgrade), however, an upgrade should be possible:
- Upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 using the "update manager"
- Upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10 to Super OS 9.10 with the instructions bellow
Upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10
Online
- Add the Super OS 9.10 repository
- check for updates
- install the package "super-os" with Synaptic or with the command: sudo apt-get install super-os
Offline
Use the Super OS 9.10 upgrade pack to upgrade if you are offline
Upgrading from Ubuntu 10.04
Online
- Add the Super OS repository
- check for updates
- install the package "super-os" with Synaptic or with the command: sudo apt-get install super-os
Offline
Use the Upgrade pack
Upgrade from Super OS 10.04 beta
- Just check for updates and install the latest packages, this will make sure you have the software included in the final version of Super OS 10.04
Upgrading from Ubuntu 10.10
Online
- Add the Super OS 10.10 repository
- check for updates
- install the package "super-os" with Synaptic or with the command: sudo apt-get install super-os
Offline
Use the Upgrade pack
Upgrading from Ubuntu 11.04
Online
- Add the Super OS 10.10 repository
- check for updates
- install the package "super-os" with Synaptic or with the command: sudo apt-get install super-os
